Béziers is the oldest city in France. Recent renovation work in 2018 has unearthed evidence of settlements dating from 640 BCE (link). Béziers is also one of the most beautiful cities in France. The new mayor, Robert Menard (who founded and led the organization Reporters Without Borders) has put a lot of good effort into renovating the city. Béziers is beginning a long overdue transformation process. Over the last four years, the hyper center has undergone a needed facelift. At the moment, property is still affordable. Everything is within reach of Béziers. You need only 2 hours to go to Barcelona, or the high Pyrenees for skiing in winter or hiking in summer, or Nimes / Arles and Avignon. Within 20 minutes out of the city, you are at the beach, or the countryside, or vineyards as far as the eye can see.
There are "animations" year round. These are events, such as the wine festival, the Feria, flower markets, antique markets, etc. These animations are created to be pleasant and family friendly events.
The Béziers airport has frequent flights to northern European countries. The airport has a free shuttle bus that stops 400 meters from the apartment. For more information please check their website by clicking here.
The Béziers trainstation is located 400 meters from the Allees at the other side of the Park Des Poetes. All trains passing along the southern coast of France make a stop here. If you plan to travel by train and you live outside of Europe you might want to consider getting a EuroRail Pass, which is only avaible for non-European citizens. They will ship to you in France though, as long as you can show them a non-European passport. There is also a regional program that allows you to take the train for only 1 euro. These 1 euro tickets can only be bought online, and not at the train station. The website for this is here. The train line Béziers - Bédarieux - St-Chély-d'Apcher is always 1 euro, and thus these tickets can be bought at the train station itself.
